GOOD FOOD

The Good Food project seeks to create a center where members of the community can come to sample, educate, and present local and sustainable food culture. With knowledge of where our food comes from becoming so opaque, it is important for inhabitants of the city to understand and appreciate the food sources that enable such a high density of cohabitation, and it reestablishes an understanding of sustainable food practices to ensure the continued healthy lifestyle of lower-income communities that may not have the advantages of wealthier communities.

One of the key aspects of the project is the auditorium, which dictates much of the center's shape. In the auditorium, one can be presented with informative lectures about sustainable food culture and take part in cultural showcases. The negative space created below the auditorium is wholly open to the public as a sort of reverse auditorium. Healthy lifestyle choices are typically passed over from lack of exposure to different options and in order to promote healthy and sustainable food practices, it was important to emphasize and establish a visual connection between passersby and the building's occupants.

The rest of the building houses classrooms and kitchens which can serve as learning showcases, as well as providing interested parties an accessible means of trying healthy food options that they would otherwise be unable to find in the area. The kitchens also team up with local restaurants that wish to shift towards a more sustainable source of food.
